Barnes & Noble Trend Rollout
Barnes & Noble replaced the music department in 91 of their stores nationwide with an expanded toys and games department. To complete the project, Beltmann Integrated Logistics was brought in to manage the logistics of all facets of the retail rollout.
Our Role
Beltmann Integrated Logistics managed timed deliveries of the fixtures from three different suppliers to each of the stores to meet the installation crews. Two truckloads were delivered to each store, with the first truck arriving at 4am, the second at 5am. Beltmann Integrated Logistics also provided labor crews to unload the trucks and move the fixtures inside of the stores.
Challenge
Time was of the essence. The entire project needed to be completed in a 30 day time span, which required precise coordination and many of the deliveries to occur on Saturdays and Sundays.
Solution
In order to maximize the efficiency of the trucks and keep costs down, Beltmann Integrated Logistics worked with the three suppliers to create load schedules that combined fixtures from two of the three providers on a single truck. Our team also arranged a staggered 4am and 5am delivery schedule for a more efficient flow at delivery. As part of the process, the experienced Beltmann Integrated Logistics Project Managers tracked each delivery to completion.
Real Results
Of the 182 truckloads of fixtures transported, only one did not make its scheduled delivery date, and that was due to inclement weather. Adjustments had to be made on the fly due to changes in install schedules, and BIL was able to react to those seamlessly. The customer and all three fixture suppliers were very pleased with our performance.
